Break Some Records of Your Own
It doesn’t matter if you
didn’t make it into the Olympics; if you want to be active, you
know how frustrating it can be to be limited by your body.
Maybe
all you want is to able to get up in the morning without pain and
stiffness. Perhaps your issue is that you have been struggling with
chronic aches. Or maybe you start to fizzle before the day is through.
These are all things that elite athletes also combat. So what do they do?
Well, in 1993, nine Chinese female runners broke nine world records at
the Chinese National Games. Some of the records were considerable. For
example, in the 10,000 meter race, the record was exceeded by 42
seconds and the 1500 meter record-breaker had placed 73rd for the same
race the previous year. The athletes were accused of taking steroids,
but all passed the drug tests and none showed any signs of steroid use,
such as highly defined muscles or acne. What they were taking was a
Chinese herb called cordyceps. Cordyceps is called dong chong xia cao.
Some herbs are so powerful at improving strength, endurance, and
performance that they are banned from use by athletes as they would be
adding an unfair advantage. So, unless you are an elite competing
athlete, you can benefit from herbs like dong chong xia cao and the
various ginsengs.
Athletes Get to the Point—Faster Healing, Better Performance.
Pain is the most common reason why
people seek acupuncture treatment. Athletes push themselves to their
limits and sometimes beyond, so as you can imagine, I see a lot of
them. Acupuncture can relieve muscle and joint pain and improve
circulation to bring in healing nutrients and carry out waste allowing
for faster repair of damage. Even tendon and ligament sprains and
strains and chronic injuries respond well to acupuncture.
You may have heard of one of China’s most famous athletes, Yao
Ming? Of course you have! He’s hard to miss at 7 foot 6 inches.
In April of last year Yao Ming used acupuncture and TCM to help him
recover faster from ankle surgery.
Yao Ming is not alone. Dwayne Wade, Mark McGuire, Jim McMahon, Matt
Hassleback, David Cone, and Jaromir Jagr are current and past elite
athletes who have also accepted acupuncture as a way to get back to
their sports faster and improve their performance.
Beijing’s athlete’s village is also making sure to provide
acupuncture and Chinese medicine to those who want and need it.

Small improvements can make a big difference in breaking records and
earning a place on the podium. Even if those aren’t your goals,
wouldn’t you like to feel stronger, more energized, have greater
endurance, and less pain?
